How to Use:
Open the foil pouch by tearing it along the top edge and one side edge. Peel the foil pouch apart and open it flat. The Patch is covered by a layer of clear plastic. Remove the Patch and the plastic together from the foil pouch. Using your fingernail, lift one corner of the Patch and peel it and the plastic off the foil liner. Sometimes patches can stick to the inside of the pouch-be careful not to accidentally remove the clear liner as you remove the Patch. Peel away half of the clear plastic. (Avoid touching the sticky surface of the Patch with your fingers. Apply the sticky side of the Patch to clean and dry skin, then remove the other half of the clear plastic. Press firmly on the Patch with the palm of your hand for 10 seconds, making sure the edges stick well. Run your fingers around the edge of the Patch to make sure it is sticking properly. Check your patch every day to make sure all edges are sticking.

Side Effects:
Most side effects of the contraceptive like vomiting, nausea, menstrual cramps or abdominal pain are not serious. Serious side effects which can be life threatening include blood clots, stroke or heart attacks and these risk increases if you smoke cigarettes.

Precautions:
The contraceptive patch contains hormones similar to those in birth control pills. This patch should not be used by women who have blood clots, certain cancers, a history of heart attack or stroke, as well as those who are or may be pregnant. Women who use this patch are strongly advised not to smoke. The contraceptive patch does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases.

Drug Interactions:
Contraceptive effectiveness may be reduced when hormonal contraceptives are co-administered with some antibiotics, antifungals, anticonvulsants, and other drugs that increase metabolism of contraceptive steroids. This could result in unintended pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding. Examples include barbiturates, griseofulvin, rifampin, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, carbamazepine, felbamate, oxcarbazepine, topiramate and possibly with ampicillin. The proposed mechanism of interaction of antibiotics is different from that of liver enzyme-inducing drugs. Literature suggests possible interactions with the concomitant use of hormonal contraceptives and ampicillin or tetracycline.

Things to be done in case of Overdose:
If more than one patch is worn at a time, or if the medication has been ingested, call an emergency room or poison control left for advice. Symptoms of an overdose of combination hormonal contraceptives may include nausea, vomiting, or vaginal bleeding.

Notes:
Smoking of cigarettes should strictly be avoided as it could prove fatal.

Missed Dose:
If you forget to apply a patch at the start of any cycle, week one (Day 1), you could become pregnant. You must use back-up contraception, (e.g., condom, spermicide, diaphragm) for one week. Apply the first patch of a new cycle as soon as you remember. You now have a new ‘Patch Change Day’ and a new Day 1. If you forget to change a patch for one or two days in Week two or Week three, apply a new patch as soon as you remember. Apply the next patch on your normal ‘Patch Change Day’. No back-up contraception is needed. In case you forget to change a patch for more than two days in Week two or Week three, you could become pregnant. Start a new four week cycle as soon as you remember by putting on a new patch. You now have a new ‘Patch Change Day’ and a new Day 1. You must use back-up contraception for the first 7 days of your new cycle. In case you forget to remove a patch at the end of Week four, take it off as soon as you remember. Start your next cycle on your normal patch change day. No back-up contraception is required.

Uses:
Zyban is used to help you quit smoking.
How to Take:
Swallow Zyban whole. Do not crush or chew them or the sustained activity of the drug will be destroyed and the chances of side effects occurring may be increased. Take as directed, usually twice daily for 7 to 12 weeks. Do not take more or less medication than prescribed. Since Zyban can cause sleeplessness at first, it is best not to take near bedtime. It is advised to continue smoking for the first week after starting Zyban, until it reaches higher levels in your blood. Do not smoke if using any nicotine products with Zyban. Too much nicotine can cause serious side effects. Do not stop taking Zyban without notifying your doctor.
Possible Side Effects:
Zyban is generally well tolerated. Dry mouth, headache, increased sweating, nausea/vomiting, constipation, anxiety, fatigue and blurred vision may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Report unusual weight loss or gain, palpitations, agitation or trouble sleeping. Unlikely but report promptly tremor, dizziness, fainting, mood changes, slowed movements, difficulty urinating, decreased sex drive or drowsiness. Very unlikely but report promptly seizures, mental problems, fever, muscle aches or yellowing of the eyes or skin. Notify your doctor immediately if an allergic reaction to this drug occurs. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, rash and itching. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions:
Before taking bupropion tell your doctor if you have a history of seizures, head injury, brain tumor; heart, liver or kidney disease, an eating disorder or any mental conditions, diabetes or if you have any allergies. Because of the possibility Zyban will make you dizzy and affect coordination, do not drive or operate machinery until you get used to the drug’s effects. Limit or avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages; alcohol can increase your risk of seizures. Chronic alcohol users who suddenly stop the intake of alcohol while taking bupropion may increase the risk of having seizures. Suddenly stopping certain tranquilizers (e.g., diazepam, chlordiazepoxide) is not recommended because doing so may increase the risk of having seizures. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before taking Zyban. Zyban is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using Zyban is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Drug Interactions:
Before taking bupropion tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medications you may use especially MAO inhibitors (e.g., isocarboxazid, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, pargyline, selegiline, furazolidone), levodopa, theophylline, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), seizure medications, sedatives, ritonavir, tranquilizers/psychiatric drugs (e.g., chlorpromazine), other antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), salicylates (e.g., aspirin, salsalate), isoniazid, chlolinesterase inhibitors (e.g., tacrine, donepezil), morphine, adrenaline-like drugs (e.g., pseudoephedrine) and narcotic pain medications (e.g., codeine). Excess caffeine intake can increase the chance of seizures with Zyban. Check all nonprescription/prescription drug labels for caffeine. Consult doctor or pharmacist. A certain product used for depression contains bupropion. Do not take that product while using this one. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include blurred vision, lightheadedness, confusion, nausea, and seizures.
Notes:
Do not allow anyone else to take Zyban.
Missed Dose:
Take any missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is within 8 hours of the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose.
Storage:
Store at room temperature and keep away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
